So Close

I am so, so close to the end of my story. Right on the precipice of the black moment when all hell breaks loose. And then reality hit and I've been busting my butt since with my hero stuck with the knife in his hand, literally.

UGH!

Of course, I've been running around with mom visiting and then visiting friends in PA. Yeah, I know. Excuses. Excuses.

I'm getting there.

58K

Let's go for 60K by this weekend. I can do it!

FInally, a Post

So I hit the ground running when I got back from my WOW with Karmela and haven't had time to blog. We had an awesome time. She hit her goal of over 60K and I hit mine of 50K. I did 11,000 words in two days!!! Actually, we got down to the cabin a little late (ahem), so we started writing after dinner. BTW: Cabin was fabulous. It was total log cabin down to the pine smell, and the owners must have raided the local crafty stores for all the decorations. It felt so homey, like grandmom's. Plus they had so many nooks with comfy chairs on which to write (with sockets available) and two big porches with rocking chairs and a swing bench. Whenever we got antsy, we just picked up and moved somewhere else.

The first night we wrote for about 3 hours or so and then we were both exhausted. The next day around 8 am, we ate breakfast and started immediately. We stopped around 12:30 for lunch and then around 6:30 for dinner. Then we frantically continued until nearly 11 pm. It really helped to have someone else at the cabin. I could hear her typing away and it just inspired me to keep going. Mostly, because I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't reach my goal. :P

On Sunday, we had to leave by 11 am and we were both exhausted, but so excited. It really showed us how just banging through scenes and not allowing ourselves to get distracted can so make a difference. Just doing 11K at my home would've taken me at least a month, if not more, depending on what comes up with work or family, both of which have been putting on the demands lately. Plus, NO INTERNET makes all the difference. And we didn't put the TV on until we were ready to leave ... just to make sure the world was still there.

Are we doing this again? Hell, yeah! I just wish it was next weekend so I can get this damn story finished and work on the revisions, which I will need at least 2 weeks of cabin serenity to make a dent.

Oh, and we were good, despite some dire predictions. We kept our traps closed except during meals.

Ha!

You Say It's Your Birthday

Yep, today I turned the BIG 35.

Where have the years gone? I remember listening to the song, "Glory Days" and not understanding how the days of school would fly by because they seemed so slow back when I was 12. Now time is pushing forward with a crushing force that would tear down the mightiest person who dared to defy it.

Another year and what have I done?

How did I get here?

I guess I've been bumming particularly on this birthday. It's the middle of my 30s. When I fill out forms, I can no longer check 18-34. Now it's 35-100. I'm still on the fence about kids. Maybe I was hoping to make more of dent in my writing career before I committed to a kid.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just a wuss about the whole mommy thing.

Today was also a little bummy for me because it was the first time I spent my birthday alone, without my husband. He's away on a biz trip, so I worked all day and didn't finish my job until now. Though I am very grateful for my many friends who stopped by and called and e-mailed to offer me birthday wishes. My friends are one of my accomplishments I'm most proud of. I really do get by with a little help from my friends. And I've been really blessed.

So, how am I going to end this day? Take a bath. Drink some Navan. And get read for my

WOW trip

Weekend of Writing with Karmela!!! We leave tomorrow afternoon. I am sooooo excited. This story is begging to be let out and I have NO excuses. Plus, Karm will kick my ass, if I screw around. Oh ... and then I can't forget the alcohol and coffee. :P
